The Atlantic Seaboard runs from Green Point and Sea Point down through Clifton and Camps Bay towards Llandudno. Pools along this strip share the same problems. They sit close to the sea, take salt air and strong sun most of the year, and catch the summer south-easter. Many are on steep plots with tight access. Over time, marbelite and concrete surfaces crack, fade and start to leak.
Fibreglass pool relining on the Atlantic Seaboard restores an existing concrete, gunite or marbelite pool with a reinforced fibreglass layer and a gelcoat finish. There is no digging and no new shell. The pool you have gets a smooth, sealed surface again.
What wears out pools on the Atlantic Seaboard before pool relining is needed
Three things do most of the damage here:
- Sun. Strong UV fades and chalks marbelite, especially on north-facing terraces.
- Salt air and wind. Salt and blown grit wear at the surface, and wind speeds up evaporation, which hides small leaks.
- Heavy use. Pools in holiday lets and family homes get used hard through summer.
Owners usually notice roughness underfoot first, then staining, then cracks or a water level that keeps dropping.
Fibreglass pool relining on steep and tight sites
Access matters on this part of the coast. Some pools sit several levels below the road, or behind a narrow side passage. That affects how we bring in equipment and remove ground-off material, and it is one reason we always visit before quoting. We plan the job so that neighbours, lifts and shared driveways are disturbed as little as possible.
Check for leaks before fibreglass pool relining
A lining seals the shell. It cannot repair a cracked pipe under the paving or a leaking skimmer box. If your pool is losing water, we find the source first. Our Cape Town pool leak detection service traces hidden leaks in marbelite and gunite pools so the right repair is done before relining.
The fibreglass pool relining process, start to finish
Surface work before the fibreglass pool lining
We drain the pool and inspect the shell. The old marbelite or concrete is ground and sanded. Cracks are opened and repaired, and the surface is primed so the new layer bonds well.

Fibreglass and gelcoat for Atlantic Seaboard pool relining
Reinforced fibreglass is built up across the whole pool, then sealed with gelcoat for the final colour and finish. The full job usually takes 5 to 10 working days, depending on pool size and weather. Wind and rain can add time at the gelcoat stage.

More detail is on our fibreglass pool relining service page.
Why fibreglass pool surfaces suit coastal homes
The gelcoat is smooth and non-porous. Algae has little to grip, so most owners brush less and use fewer chemicals than they did with worn marbelite. With proper care, a fibreglass lining lasts 15 to 25 years. We guarantee fibreglass lining and repair work for up to 5 years, depending on the project.
Marbelite resurfacing is the other option for concrete pools. We offer both and will say which suits your pool. If you live in Camps Bay itself, see our Camps Bay pool renovation page.
Pool relining cost on the Atlantic Seaboard
The cost depends on pool size, shape, condition and access, and access can vary a lot on this coast. After a site visit we send a written quote. For typical figures, read our 2026 fibreglass relining price guide.
Atlantic Seaboard fibreglass pool relining FAQ
Which areas on the Atlantic Seaboard do you cover for pool relining?
We work along the whole seaboard, from Green Point and Sea Point to Clifton, Camps Bay and beyond.
Can fibreglass pool relining be done on a hard-to-reach pool?
Usually yes. We assess access on the site visit and plan the equipment around it.
Will a fibreglass pool lining go over old marbelite?
Yes. After draining, grinding, crack repair and priming, it bonds well over marbelite or concrete.
What are black spots on a fibreglass pool?
Usually osmosis. We grind and disinfect the area, then reline it with new gelcoat.
